It is often said that a week is a long time in football. Garry Hill and Woking discovered that so is two days following the dissapointiment of last Saturday’s frustrating draw with Welling was followed up with a 6-1 thumping of Dover Athletic on the Monday.

Scott Rendell burst to the top of the Conference goalscoring table with four goals on Monday which saw The Cards go from struggling to find the net to going goal crazy.

Saturday sees Woking travel to North Wales which has been an uphappy hunting ground in recent seasons with The Cards losing their last two visits to The Racecourse Ground.

To find out more about what has happened at the ex-football league side over the summer and at the start of the season, we talked to Wrexham fan Ryan Denoven:

Q: Many Wrexham fans would have been disappointed with last year’s finishing league position, what has gone on at the club over the summer in terms of players coming and going?

A: Yes it was a very poor season for us last season, we have brought in a whole new strike force with Louis Moult, Connor Jennings and Wes York and we have got a new centre back pairing of Blaine Hudson and Manny Smith. We also have a goalkeeper on loan from Stoke called Daniel Bachmann but he has been injured the last couple of games. The rest of the team are the players we kept from last season.

Q: What is the ambition for the club this season? Is it always to gain promotion?

A: A team like us has to be looking to win promotion every season as we are a big club with a great fan base, great facilities and a rich history. Of course I know you don’t win anything because of all them things I just mentioned but everyone this year has a good feeling about this season and the players and management staff want to bring back the good times so if everyone pulls in the same direction I don’t see why we can’t win promotion this season.

Q: Wrexham have made a steady start and find themselves with 10 points from the first fives games, what have you learnt about the squad in this time?

A: I’m quite happy with how many points we have picked up so far as the team is still gelling, 10 out of 15 is 5 more points than what we had at the same stage this time last season so it’s all looking positive. We are very dangerous at attacking teams but we need to stop leaking goals at the back, hopefully we can start picking up some clean sheets soon.

Q: Who will Woking have to watch out for on Saturday?

Probably Louis Moult, got 16 goals for Nuneaton last season he’s only got 2 so far for us but he works his socks off every game and is always looking to score. He holds the ball up brilliantly and looks to bring other people into play too, best striker we have had in a while in my opinion. Oh and also watch out for Big Blaine Hudson from set-pieces.

Q: What is your score prediction?

A: 2-1 to Wrexham, gonna be a tough game with Woking being unbeaten and coming into the game off the back of a 6-1 win but I fancy us to battle to a hard fought win.
