Matt Jarvis has revealed an unexpected phone call from Martin Tyler was the first step in getting him to sign for The Cards.

Jarvis signed in late February and told the Football Times podcast that the first he knew of the club’s interest in him was when he was predominantly concentrating on his punditry career. He explained:

“I got a call out of the blue from a number I didn’t know and it was Martin Tyler! I was wondering what he wanted me to do at Sky Sports but he explained he was the assistant manager at Woking.”

After mulling the opportunity over the ex-Wolves player made the decision to sign on a pay-as-you-play deal. Jarvis admitted it was the ideal fit for him at that stage in his career.

“It was perfect for me. We were just about to have our second child, we had just moved house and we were settled. I just wanted to play football and it was the perfect opportunity. It is a great club with a great manager.”

Jarvis Scored On His Cards Debut

The COVID-19 pandemic cut the 19/20 season short with some questioning if that was the last The Cards would see of the ex-England international. However, Jarvis was one of the first players to be retained by the club.

“As soon as we knew the new season was going to start I had no hesitation in signing. I just want to play games and enjoy myself.”
